Frequently asked questions

How much can I claim for PCP car finance mis-selling?+
The FCA estimates an average of £1,100 per PCP agreement, though claims can be significantly higher depending on your loan amount and the interest rate overcharge. The FCA's review of motor finance commissions found systematic mis-selling and ordered industry redress. Use our PCP calculator above to get a personalised estimate based on your specific agreement.
How long do I have to make a personal injury claim?+
In England and Wales, you have 3 years from the date of the accident to issue legal proceedings. Exceptions apply: for children, the 3-year period begins on their 18th birthday. For conditions that develop gradually (industrial disease, repetitive strain), the clock starts when you knew — or should reasonably have known — about the injury. Missing this deadline usually means losing your right to claim, so acting promptly is essential.
Can I claim flight compensation if I booked through a travel agent?+
Yes. The UK261 compensation scheme applies to individual passengers regardless of how they booked. Your claim is against the operating airline — not the travel agent or package holiday company. You'll need your flight booking reference and boarding pass (or booking confirmation) to make a claim. The amount you receive depends on flight distance and actual delay at destination.
What makes a valid housing disrepair claim?+
A valid housing disrepair claim requires three things: (1) your landlord was aware of the disrepair — either because you reported it or it was obvious; (2) they failed to carry out repairs within a reasonable time; and (3) the disrepair caused you loss, inconvenience, or affected your health. Compensation is typically calculated as a percentage reduction in your rent for the period of disrepair, plus any special damages for damaged belongings or out-of-pocket costs.
How does the APP fraud reimbursement scheme work?+
From October 7, 2024, the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) requires UK banks to reimburse victims of Authorised Push Payment fraud up to £85,000 per claim. This applies where you were deceived into making a bank transfer — including romance scams, investment fraud, and impersonation. You must report to your bank within 13 months. Banks split the cost 50/50 between the sending and receiving bank, incentivising both to prevent fraud.
How accurate are ClaimValue's compensation calculators?+
Our personal injury calculator uses the UK Judicial College Guidelines 2025 — the same tables used by solicitors, insurers, and courts to assess general damages. Flight compensation figures are fixed by regulation. PCP and housing estimates are based on FCA data and published case outcomes. All calculators provide indicative ranges, not guaranteed amounts. Actual outcomes depend on the specific facts, evidence, and legal strategy — which is why we always recommend speaking to a specialist before proceeding.
Is ClaimValue free to use?+
Yes, completely. All calculators, eligibility checkers, and payout data on ClaimValue are free. We are funded by referral fees when we connect users with specialist solicitors — but this never influences the data or estimates we provide. You are under no obligation to proceed with any claim after using our tools.
